Metal on metal hip replacements are no longer in routine use within the NHS and have rarely been part of our surgical team’s practice. They are however highly experienced in the removal of previously implanted metal on metal hips and revision of such devices to conventional hip replacements with tried and tested bearing technology.
The MHRA gives clear guidance on the monitoring of these devices. If you have a metal on metal hip replacement and are not currently under follow up please arrange referral for review and monitoring.
